UTM Church Leadership
History
In 1996 while acting as a Pulpit Minister under Rev. Benjamin Stanley Baker of the New Light Baptist Church, Pastor, Ocie L. Brown, Jr., received a call from God to begin a new church.
After he discussed the matter with his pastor, he began to hold meetings with several of those that he considered his closest friends concerning his calling. When he received the assignment from God, he began to hold Bible Study classes in his home. The classes were held each week with short planning sessions after each class to determine the next steps to form the church.
In October 1996 a small group of founding members wrote cooperation papers, began searching for a church building, and decided on a name for this new Church: Universal Transformation Ministries. The members wanted the name to reflect the fact that everyone would be welcome and believed that lives would be transformed by the ministry.
The church rented a building on James Couzens to hold services. On January 12, 1997 the church held its Covenant Service. There was standing room only, as many of the members and friends of New Light Baptist were in attendance.
At that point, the work of the Lord truly began. The church remained in that small building until April 1998, and then moved to a slightly larger space a few doors away. In May of 1999, Universal Transformation Ministries purchased its first building at 19901 James Couzens, where service is still held today.
For over 18 years, Pastor Brown led the church, teaching and preaching the gospel so God could transform people’s lives. In 2008 Linda Brown, his wife, became licensed to preach. When Pastor Brown became ill, she started serving in his position and after his death in March 2017 she became pastor of the church.
